2001. First styling was performed by roughly breaking the too long trunk down to Mame-size.

2003

Deadwood is worked on, and a weak branch that died over the winter called for restyling of the branch structure. Dealing with Mame-bonsai can be delicate, because a single branch may be what half the canopy is build upon.

The new canopy is now developing satisfyingly.

2005

The Mame-bonsai now shows its potential. At this state, the right pot has not been found yet. The present one is to small at this time.

2006

I now think the small tree has reached a satisfyingly level. The branch structure still can be improved in details, but the overall shape of the tree and the new pot fits well.

Next is to shorten a thick old roots stump which over time has been worked on, to be replaced by smaller new roots. This in order to be able to plant the tree deeper in the pot. At this moment it is positioned too high.

Autumn. Height: 9,5 cm. Pot: John Pitt.

2007

Winter time shows the beauty of the almost naked branches, with only few leaves and some nice red berries left from fall. It has taken almost ten years from the tree was started from raw nursery material.

Still a few seasons are needed to develop the branch structure more. This is a more complicated task now, because some areas are ready to be maintained as they are, or need slightly to be restored, and others need further development and refinement.

The left side of the tree is developed as I want it, but the right side lacks refinement. So the trimming of the two areas are essential to gain success, pushing more energy to the right side of the canopy, without taking out the growth too much of the left.
