A report from the 1st British Shohin Association (BSA) show,
which was held at
the 28th and 29th of January 2006, at Willowbog Bonsai in Northern England.
It was a joy to see the efforts done putting up this show, and the
quality surprised me positively. A lot of very good Shohin and middle sized Chuhin where at display, presenting both well-developed and talented
trees.
The president of BSA, 2005 Gingko award winning Caroline Scott (UK),
displayed a beautiful collection of Shohin, and hold also a speak about displaying Shohin-bonsai the right way.
I joined Italian Marco Invernizzi doing a speak about
Shohin matters; going through caretaking, aesthetical views, development of Shohin from cuttings, and other subjects covering the issue,
supplied by questions from the audience. Marco also gave a slide presentation of his personal
photographs taken at the Gafuten exhibition in Kyoto, which is the largest Shohin-bonsai exhibition in Japan.
Marco, who is an enthusiastic speaker and lover of Shohin-bonsai also did a workshop with a group of
very interested participants, and an eagerly listening audience too.
My overall impression is that this was a very fine start for the BSA,
which will be a good platform for the development of Shohin-bonsai in Europe the coming years. The exhibited Shohin-bonsai showed a big effort is put into
Shohin-bonsai in the UK, by people seriously devoted to the art.
This exhibition I am sure will grow in volume, and the inspiration
gained by attending such an event will surely gather a larger number of enthusiasts in the future. The friendly and very enjoyably spirit present this weekend, also
makes it worthwhile being part of the BSA.
